Williamsburg, VA was the colonial capital of Virginia, and it became the capital of Virginia after the Revolutionary War until the capital moved to Richmond. This historic colonial town is preserved like it was back in the colonial times. Today, after visiting the visitor's center, there is a bus that takes guests around the historic area including stops at the old Governor's Palace and Capitol. One can walk too from the visitor's center, but it gets pretty hot and humid if one visits in the summer like we did. It is pretty cool to see actors in colonial costumes also around the area.
Jamestown, VA was the original English settlement in the New World in the 1600s. After harsh conditions, the first settlers all died there. Afterwards, other attempts were made to create a settlement there, but they did not survive too. Today, one can walk around the original settlement as well as the secondary ones and see ruins from back then. The settlement is on the banks of the James River too.
