Mackinac Island, MI

   1
Going to Mackinac Island (pronounced Mackinaw) is like going back in time to the 1800s.  There are no cars on the island.  One gets around with these horse drawn carriages, bikes, or their feet.

2
Mackinac Island is on Lake Huron which is super clear, but it is chilly even in the summer!

M3
Mackinac Fudge is very famous.  There are several fudge and candy shops on the island.

This is the harbor on Mackinac Island.  One has to take a ferry to get here from the mainland.

5
Ft. Mackinac is a historic fortress built by the British and handed over to the US after the Revolutionary War.

M6
The Mission Point Resort is where we stayed.  It was a nice and relaxing place by the lake!

The Grand Hotel is spectacular during the day or at night!

Mackinac Island on Lake Huron in Michigan is a must for one to put on their bucket list!  This island is accessible via ferry from either Mackinaw City or from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Upon arrival on the island, one thinks that one has been transported back in time to the 1800s.  The old New England colonial buildings, horse drawn carriages and taxis, and Ft. Mackinac make the island look it is stuck in some time warp.  The waters of Lake Huron are beautiful and clear despite being a little too chilly for my tastes.  The island is known for the many fudge shops as well.  The two major resorts on the island are the Grand Hotel and the Mission Point Resort.  The Grand Hotel is very upscale and fancy!  Men must wear a jacket and tie to walk around the hotel after 6:30 PM.  Mission Point is very relaxed with adirondack chairs that overlook the lake.
