Machu Picchu, Peru

M1
This is the typical shot of Machu Picchu that one takes from above.

M2
This is a llama on the hillside acting as a natural lawn mower.  LOL.

M3
The smaller mountain directly behind me is Huanya Picchu.

M4
The niches in the stone helped preserve the buildings during the earthquakes.

M5
The terraces that were cut into the mountainside allowed the Inca to grow their crops.

This is one of the temples at Machu Picchu.

One can make out the face of a condor on this stone in the Condor Temple.

Machu Picchu in Peru is one of the 7 wonders of the Modern World.  It was a breathtaking place!  The Inca built this city on a hill as a spirtual place with many temples.  It is amazing how they could build these structures without the use of computers or modern day equipment.  The stones must have weighed a ton literally, and they had to get them up the mountain somehow.  Machu Picchu is also on the edge of where the Peruvian Amazon jungle begins.  The Inca built walls below the city to keep the dangerous animals like pumas and snakes out.
