Ambergris Caye, Belize

B1
The world's 2nd largest barrier reef is off the coast of Belize.  It is actually pretty close to Ambergris Caye.  Here is a nice view of the water and reef from the air.  The reef is the white line at the top of the picture where the waves crash against it.

This is the northern shore of Ambergris Caye.  I took this photo while snorkeling at Mexico Rocks.

B3
This is the Hol Chan Marine Reserve off the coast of Ambergris Caye.  The barrier reef can be seen in the background where the waves are crashing against it.

This is Shark Ray Ally.  It is off the coast of Ambergris Caye also.  I swam with these sharks.  They are generally non aggresive.

B5
The beaches are lined with coconut trees on Ambergris Caye.

Here is a nice shot of the water from San Pedro in Ambergris Caye.  San Pedro is the main town on the island.

In 2016, I went to visit the Central American nation of Belize.  It is on the Caribbean side of Central America.  The water was amazing.  Ambergris Caye is an island off the coast of Belize.  It was a part of the Yucatan Peninsula until the Mayans dug a canal which made it an island.  The island's largest town is San Pedro.  Madonna signs about this place in her song, "La Isla Bonita."  It was a very relaxing place to visit.  There is still not much development, and one can walk around the town pretty safely.  There is a decent nightlife also.
